The name’s Dylan Trevor and till now I have remained behind the scenes of the top guild in my server, blasting through all the latest raids and instances from the days of vanilla WOW to the latest dungeons and raids in Cataclysm.
To be honest, it hasn’t been smooth-sailing all the way but I’ve always been captivated by the dungeons and raids which have kept me playing to this very day. The game has grown by leaps and bounds ever since the good ol’ days of 5-man Stratholme, Scholomance and the epic 40 man raids. There are dozens upon dozens of instances now and the top level stuff is catered more and more toward the hardcore gamer… the guys like me who have been doing it for the longest time.
Over the years, my guild has been locked in a heated battle with another guild for the right to be declared the leading PvE guild in our server but ever since the release of Wrath of The Lich King, the tides have turned in our favor, granting us Server First Boss Kills for 3 Drake Sartharion 10 Man to our latest conquest, Sinestra Heroic mode. Our total domination couldn’t have come at a better time, as Cataclysm has introduced probably the toughest PvE content we have ever seen.
Look, I’m not trying to come across as an arrogant chest-thumper. My guildies and I virtually had to fight tooth and nail to get to the where we are now. The REAL DIFFERENCE between the average raider and the elite players who steamroll past content the week it is released?
I still remember it like it was yesterday. Just days after transferring to another server, I decided to tag along on a raid just for shits and giggles. These guys were decked in the BEST GEAR from head to toe and I was only there for a free ride on the Epic Express. Truth is, I really had no clue what it took to be a top level raider until I met these guys. What I saw in the next two hours totally blew me away.
This team was like a beast on steroids, chain pulling every mob in sight until they reached the boss. There was no need for water breaks, no unnecessary wipes, no irresponsible AFK’ers but what astonished me the most was the fact that everyone seemed to be having the time of their lives! Every class knew exactly what they needed to do. It was poetry in motion and to be honest, they really didn’t need me there considering that I hardly made a dent on the damage meters. I made up my mind there and then that this was the company I would need to keep if I were serious about taking my game to the next level. I PM’ed the raid leader, a very patient and composed Warrior Tank and after the raid, he and I spoke on vent for nearly 5 hours. He then revealed to me his secret to being a successful raider – Teamwork. Communication. Hard Work – and lots of it. Nothing groundbreaking but it finally made sense to me.
So I went for it – I started spending four, five, even six nights a week in instances and raids, practicing and practicing. And then practicing some more.
Fast forward to the present, I now have 6 different classes at level 85 that are able to fulfill any role – Tank, Healer, DPS – you ask of me and perform at the highest level possible. I’ve studied all the raids and instances and know every boss encounter like… Read more…
